Prevention Through community engagement

Working in conjunction with the village development committee, local schools, clinic, and small businesses, our aim is to involve and engage these important community based institutions allowing them to play a central role in the implementation and development of SOCOBA's HIV program and overall mission. Our aim is to strengthen these entities and embolden their outreach through four main areas:

  • Youth Sports Development-Botswana loves soccer. Mabule LOVES soccer and we plan to leverage this passion for the sport to mobilize, engage, and educate our youth so they are equipped to make informed choices and live a healthy and positive lifestyle.

  • Home Visits-In order to keep families informed and involved, we make regular routine visits to homes in our villages. There are no surprises and SOCOBA keeps our youth’s families in touch with what is going on and we make sure consent is granted for all we do.

  • Community Education and Capacity Building-SOCOBA has partnerships with the local VDC, Kgotla, clinic, primary and secondary schools, and Mabule Red Cross. Through monthly meetings, we make sure everyone is on the same page with the strides our programming is making.

  • Drama/youth group/traditional dance performances- We have found that often our youth are the best influences of other youth, and they love to perform. Our sponsorship of the Mabule youth group, Botsanag, supports their performances and community outreach endeavors.HI
