THE SITUATION

Low population density and the distance to Gaborone make the cost of delivering most social services and many types of infrastructure out of reach for Mabule and surrounding villages. It is difficult to recruit skilled people to public service or private enterprises in Mabule, and a lack of multiple and reliable transportation services adds to the numerous formidable challenges people of the area live with despite the multitude of needs they face.

Currently, there are a few combis that run somewhat regularly, but they are few and far between making it challenging to stay connected to resources, programs, and important facilities and ministrations. Our transportation aims to provide a free or discounted transportation service to those who need it the most. SOCOBA plans to purchase, maintain, and operate two combi vehicles and one SUV to fill the current gaps in transportation.

GOAL

To provide consistent and reliable transportation to those unable to afford it or are in an extreme need of transportation due to health or familial needs.

OBJECTIVES

Transport beneficiaries who are in need of transportation for various health related reasons; increase the number of transportation opportunities available to Mabule and surrounding villages; serve as a supplement or back up to clinic needs; increase the number of occurrences offered to Good Hope, Lobatse, and Gaborone for town and hospital visits.

OUTCOMES

Established transportation service offered on a regular basis at a free or discounted rate reduces economic and physical hardship on those dependent and reliant on routine transport services.
